FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

CYNTHIA SIU LEN CHEE
CYNTHIA SIU LEN CHEE Cynthia Siu Len Chee passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2012. She was 82 years old. She was born in Ewa, the daughter of Harry K. F. and Elizabeth Naholowa'a Ching. A longtime resident of Ewa Beach, she graduated from Waipahu High School and earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. In 1952, she married Gordon K. S. Chee, who passed away in 1991. A woman before her time, Cynthia challenged those around her to strive for perfection, "kulia i ka nu`u". In an era when women increasingly sought professional careers, she found her niche through education. Whether as an instructor for the Foods of the Pacific Summer Program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, as a teacher with the Department of Education (English, SPED, DPT, Resource) or as a volunteer with the Friends of Hokulea and Hawaiiloa, she loved to share the gift of learning. She served as Vice President of the Hawaii State Teachers Association and was Hawaii State Director of the National Education Association. She enjoyed traveling and new experiences, cooking and spending time with family and her beloved pets. She challenged her children, but was always supportive, encouraging and loving. She is survived by her daughter, Elsbeth Chee, son, Howard "Puni" (Jaylene) Chee, daughter-in-law Cheryl (Greg) Chee, grandchildren Alyssa "Makamae, Amanda "Pualei", Brandon and Kirra and siblings Lorraine (Frank) Mau, Ret. Col. Harry (Sylvia) Ching and Elena Crawford. Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Mililani Memorial Park, Makai Chapel. Visitation from 5:30 p.m. Donations may be made in her name to Hawaii Meals on Wheels.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
