101, from Ma`ili passed away peacefully at home in Ewa on Aug 1, 2012. She was born in Kalihi on May 11, 1911, the eldest of ten Vanderford children, casting her in the role of family matriarch and our affectionate "General". She took joy in the simple things; "shooting the breeze" over coffee, mango bread or her famous coconut cake, card games, family picnics, back yard parties and camping filled with music and laughter.
Mabel was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Clarence Markham and her oldest son, Clarence Markham Jr. She and Clarence raised their family in Damon Tract and later settled in Ma`ili for 51 years. Mabel is survived by sisters Florence Tancayo of CA and Ruth Van Name of FL.; daughters Winifred Pomakai Harris and Valerie Andrews; sons Marvin Markham (Sayoko), and Patrick Markham (Emily); grandchildren Iris Andrews, Allan Andrews (Serlina), Gale Flynn (John), Darryl Markham, Noelani Ladds (Robert), Chris and Steve Markham (Kristy), Bradford Markham (Renee), Van, Patrick and Richard Markham; great-grandchildren Tara, Erin, Cherise, Anthony, Kellan, Kharys, Dylan and Anika; 7 great great-grandchildren and three foster nieces, Jackie Masters, Lorraine LaRue and Roseanna McDonnell of WA.
