REV. HENRY A. TANAKA
Passed away on June 29, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born Jan 3, 1929 in Nawiliwili, Kauai. He left in 1945 and served with the army in post war Japan and returned to the states to pursue a career in life insurance. His second career began when he became ordained as a Buddhist minister in 1987 and served in Kauai, the Big Island and Oahu and retired in 1998. Not willing to retire completely, he established the Kapolei Buddhist Sangha in 1999. He is survived by his children, Herbert Tanaka and Elizabeth Yew and grandchildren Rachel and Robert Yew. Other surviving family members are his siblings Roy Tanaka, Flora Lau Grace Murata, and Helen Sakai. A private memorial service was held July 20, 2012. A public 49th Day service will be held at the Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin at 11:00am on August 18, 2012.
