FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Robert Masami Ota
ROBERT MASAMI OTA Passed away peacefully on February 23, 2013 at Kuakini Medical Center, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Helen, sons, Ronald (Hazel) Ota and Russell (Dale) Ota; daughter, Ann (Jon) Nishimoto; grandchildren, Stacie Nishimoto, Evan Pearson and Axel Pearson and sister, Maude S. Kasuya. He was born in 1923 in Kalaoa on the Big Island, graduated from Hilo High School; received his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University and a Masters Degree from Purdue University. Robert lived a rich, full life. He began his career as a County Extension Agent on the Big Island, moved on to become the Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Hawaii, Hilo and retired as a Bank of Hawaii Vice-President in charge of Agricultural Loans. He loved to travel. He and his wife traveled to Japan, China, Europe and all across the mainland. He was a consummate learner and continued to take University of Hawaii classes until the year before he passed. His passion was being with family and friends. He enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing with his family and his Mid-Pacific Country Club and banking friends, watching college football and baseball and getting together with old friends. He was always the organizer and thrived on his relationships with people. He had an amazing ability to stay connected with people; some relationships spanning 50 years or more. To his family and friends, he was an extraordinary man compassionate, social, stimulating and someone you could rely on for strength and guidance. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Diamond Head Mortuary. Visitation 4-5 p.m. with service to begin at 5 p.m. Casual/Aloha Attire.
