BERNALDO BERNIE DANIEL BICOY
Age 89, passed away surrounded by his family on March 15, 2013 in Honolulu. Born March 24, 1923 in Lahaina, raised on Molokai. Bernie served in World War II and the Korean War receiving 13 military metals of honor including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor device and Purple Heart. He also served as researcher for the Allied War Crimes Commission in the Nuremburg trials, known to many as the greatest trial in history. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel (JAGC). He later obtained his law degree from the University of Missouri and was head of his own law corporation in Honolulu, dedicating 26 years to helping people. Bernie served as a member in the last Hawaii Territorial Legislature and was involved in creating what we now know as the State of Hawaii and served 2 terms in the State of Hawaii legislature - a distinction held by a select few. Bernie also played a founding role in the creation the Filipino Chamber of Commerce, the United Filipino Council of Hawaii, and the Congress of Visayan Organization (COVO) and in 1975 he was awarded the "Outstanding Filipino Overseas in Law" by the Republic of the Philippines. He is survived by his wife Betty; daughters Fayrene "Renee" Delos Santos (Art), Dawn Marie Bicoy-Stephenson (Rob); sons James Bicoy, Bret Bicoy (Cari); 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Bernie Bicoy, Jr. Please join us in his celebration of life on Monday, April 1st, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Aiea. Aloha attire. Visitation 9 AM, Services at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Schofield Barracks Post Cemetery at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bernie Bicoy Memorial Fund at www.bicoy.com which will benefit Hawaii charities.
