EDWIN T. HIRAI
EDWIN T. HIRAI HIRAI Edwin Toshiharu Hirai, 70, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away April 26, 2013, with his wife and daughter by his bedside. Born April 6, 1943 in Honolulu to parents, the late Masamichi and Matsue Hirai. He is survived by his wife, Gayle T. Hirai, realtor associate with East Oahu Realty, and daughter Chanel A. (Hirai) Kipper, also a realtor associate with East Oahu Realty; and son-in-law, Dr. David Kipper, and his son, Sam Kipper. Surviving brothers: Walter T. (Ellen) Hirai, Francis S. Hirai. Deceased brothers: David, Frank and Stanley Hirai. Surviving sisters: June S. Hirai, Margaret Tom (Kenneth) and Eleanor Hirai-Marquez (Mark). Deceased sisters: Grace Gyotoku (Richard Gyotoku, deceased) and Vivian Hirai. Edwin was employed at Eastman Kodak/Qualex. He faithfully served for 40 years and retired in 2006. He was an avid reader, had an excellent memory, and a natural ability for remembering statistics from his favorite sports: boxing and football. He loved sharing facts and figures on a wealth of topics, and especially, tell stories and jokes to the sports teams he coached. He had a genuine love for people as evidenced by his unpretentious, forthright, and transparent personality. He had a knack for making strangers feel welcomed, accepted and comfortable. This truly was a gift from God. Visitation 4-6 p.m., Monday, June 3, at Diamond Head Mortuary. Celebration service at 6 p.m.
