EUNICE YUEN OY KONG LAU 92 of Honolulu, Hawaii died December 2, 2013 at the Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Home. She was born August 2, 1921 in Lilong, China. Eunice Lau, the late owner of Gum Chew Lau Noodle Factory, lived in Kaimuki, on the island of Oahu for the past 65 years where she and her husband raised three children. Throughout her life, work, and participation in the Christian Chinese Church Community, Eunice gained a diverse group of friends, and hanai family. Many people helped her when she first moved to Oahu; in return, she lovingly and generously reciprocated by assisting others in need. During her retirement years she learned and excelled at various crafts such as knitting and crocheting, making dish scrubbies and baby hats for the hospital, neck and haku lei- making, using flowers, feathers, money, even recyclable materials. Her garden bloomed with cigar flowers and pikake. She kissed babies, played mahjong, cooked and ate delicious food, traveled the world and lived life to the fullest. Towards the end she suffered from diabetes progressive kidney failure. She opted not to receive dialysis treatment, rather fearlessly awaiting death. At the age of 92, she died at 12:30 a.m. on December 2, 2013, at Hale Ho Aloha on Pacific Heights Road, with her only granddaughter Dory Jay, and daughter Victoria at her side. Visitation Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 12:45 p.m. at the Diamond Head Memorial Park. The family requests that aloha attire be worn for the services.
