RICHARD KATSUTO YOKOYAMA
www.garyhofheimerphotography.comRICHARD KATSUTO YOKOYAMA 88, of Kaneohe, Hawaii, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 30, 1925. Richard attended Maryknoll High School and went on to study at the University of Hawaii graduating in 1950. In 1954 he achieved a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Kansas City. He was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon, National Dental Honor Society. In Kansas City, he met his future wife, Elsie Lorene Braun, of Clay Center, Kansas. In 1955, he married Elsie while stationed at Kisarazu Air Force Base, Japan. In 1956, Richard and Elsie returned to Hawaii and settled in Kaneohe where they worked together to build Richard's dental practice while also raising their family. They remained in Kaneohe for their married lives, retiring in 2000 after a long and successful dental career. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Kaneohe in addition to his membership in the Hawaii Dental Association. Richard and Elsie have been members of Parker United Methodist Church since they moved to Kaneohe. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; his children and their spouses Michael Yokoyama and Jaye Venuti, Lorene Yokoyama Becker and Larry Becker, Amy and Harold McDermott, and Ross and Susan Yokoyama; his brother David Yokoyama and wife Carolyn; and his grandchildren Dylan and Blaise Yokoyama, Christopher and Malia Becker, Kelly and Mark McDermott, and Joseph and Matthew Kawamoto Yokoyama, along with an extended family of many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at Parker United Methodist Church, Kaneohe on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with a service at 10:30 AM.
