8-8 657872 Carl FardenCARL ALEXANDER ALIKA FARDEN, III Carl Alexander Farden, III, "Alika" to his friends and family died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Kailua with beloved wife Armelle at his side. Alika was the son of Carl Alexander Farden, Jr. and Joanne Gaffney. He was born in Honolulu on February 22, 1954. A Captain in the Honolulu Fire Department, Alika cherished his working life as a firefighter. He established a program to teach procedural organization of fire fighting for residential fires. He was also a key participant and teacher in the department's water rescue program. With his understanding of building construction Alika became an active member of the Firefighter's Union planning committee. Alika worked hard but he played hard too. A lifelong surfer and skier, and more recently a dirt bike rider, Alika loved the challenge of sport and the thrill of the ride. He understood the spirituality of the sea and in his soul he had that tangible sense of euphoria that can only be captured while surfing that perfect wave. Alika was a family man. The center of his world was his Son, Shawn Alexander and his wife, Armelle. Alika was courageous, hard working and loyal. He lived by the high standards set by his father, Carl Farden Jr. and his Grandfather, Carl A. Farden, Sr. The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Kailua Community Church, 459 Keaniani St., Visitation 9.30 am; Service 11 am. Paddle out to Flat Island in Kailua at 3 pm.(Congregate at the boat ramp area.)
