AUGUST MENDONCA NASCIMENTO
AUGUST MENDONCA NASCIMENTO Jan. 8, 1918 July 24, 2014 Age 96 of Honolulu, HI passed away at Kaiser Medical Center. He was born in Waiakea Mill, Hawaii, the youngest of 15 children. After graduation from St. Mary's School in Hilo, he joined the Army and served in the Pacific during WWII. When the war ended, he transferred to the Hawaii Army National Guard where he retired as a Lt. Col. in 1973 after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Olive, sons Glenn (Laureen), Gordon (Evelyn), daughters Faye (Jose) Bautista, Gail (Florendo) Juan, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Visitation at 9:30 AM, mass at 10:30 AM followed by lunch. Burial at 2 PM at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Aloha attire. Flowers welcomed.
