D. ZANE SCHLEMMER 88, passed away July 21, 2013. Zane was born in Canton, Ohio, but called Hawaii his home. After serving with the US Army during World War II, he graduated from Northwestern University, and had a long property development career in California and Oahu. A longtime resident of Kaneohe, Zane devoted many thousands of hours voluntarily, assisting the VA at Tripler Medical Center and at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery. For many years Zane also embarked on daily walks through nearby Kaneohe neighborhoods, picking up litter. His enthusiastic citizenship was widely recognized both locally and nationally. He is survived by sons Douglas and Brett, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Committal service is at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl Committal Shelter, Monday, August 25, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, 45-349 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, Hi. 96744.
