Hebert Hung-Shan Wong
8-24 662717 Herbert WongHERBERT HUNG-SHAN WONG Jan. 13, 1928-Aug. 18, 2014 Herb, age 86, passed away peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by his family. Throughout his illness, he impressed his family with his remarkable optimism and patience. Herb grew up in a very large family in Wahiawa on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. He was the first to move to the mainland to attend college. He graduated from St. Thomas College in Minnesota and later obtained his D.D.S. from the University of Minnesota in 1960. He served his country in the US Army from 1946 to 1948. He met and married his wife, Eileen A. Wong, in St. Paul, Minnesota on Nov. 28, 1958. They raised three children in Portland, Oregon, where Herb established a dental practice in Cedar Mills that flourished from 1967 to 2002. Herb loved being a family dentist. Taking care of his patients made him happiest and he took pride in serving multiple generations of Cedar Mills families. Herb was an avid golfer in the Portland Chinese Golf Club. He was a devoted, kind father who encouraged his daughters to obtain advanced degrees-after he became one of the first in his family to attend college. He had a lifelong passion for his Chinese heritage and good food of all kinds, especially Chinese. He was the rock of his family and will be greatly missed and always remembered by his wife, Eileen, daughters Mary, Julie and Christine, his sons-in-law Chall Fry and Steve Daniels, and his grandson Nicholas Kai Daniels. His survivors also include multiple generations of family in Hawaii and the mainland, the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of his fifteen brothers and sisters. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association. A memorial service is scheduled for September 20 at 11 AM at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Arrangements by Springer and Son.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
