ROBERT COONTZ LEWROBERT COONTZ LEW "Smokey" Born in Honolulu, passed away on May 12, 2013, at age 87, in Lakewood, Washington. Smokey grew up surfing and enjoyed returning home to surf at Kuhio Beach. He joined the U. S. Army during World War II and was deployed to Germany. There, he met and married his lifelong wife, Margot Waldmann, in 1947. While in the Army, he was stationed in New York, Virginia, Hawaii, California, France, and Germany, and served wartime tours in Korea and Vietnam. During his 31 years of service he was awarded 2 bronze stars and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his beloved wife, Margot, son, Bob (Libby) and daughter, Judy, grandchildren, Nicholas (Christie) and Tracey, great-granddaughter, Aurelia, sister, Lily Tuggle, and nieces. He is greatly missed by family and friends. We love and miss you Opa. His final wish was to return home to Hawaii. His Inurnment will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl). Aloha/Casual attire.
