Charlotte Barrett Clark
$nameCHARLOTTE BARRETT CLARK Charlotte Barrett Clark passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Charlotte Maria Frost Barrett was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 28, 1927, the only child of Charlotte Meier Barrett and Hosmer James Barrett. She is a descendent of H. H. Meier, an inventor and legendary founder of the North German Lloyd Steamship Company in Breman, Germany. She grew up in the West Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood. She graduated from Westlake School for Girls, now Harvard Westlake School, Briarcliff Junior College in New York, and Stanford University. After working at NBC television for 2 years she married Cedric Errol Francis, a motion picture executive at Warner Bros. and they had two children. In 1970 she married Christopher F. Cusack of Honolulu and has remained there ever since. After Mr. Cusack's death in 1995, she married Henry B. Clark, Jr. In Los Angeles she was active in the Nine O'clock Players, the Children's Hospital Volunteers, and was a founding member of the Junior Art Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which later became the Art Museum Council. In Honolulu she joined the Garden Club of Honolulu and was a board member and Vice-President. She was an officer of the Waialae Golf Club Community Association and established a Neighborhood Security Watch after there were 10 burglaries in just one month. She was also an officer of the 3003 Kalakaua Community Association. She was on the Board of La Pietra - Hawaii School for Girls, and active in the Academy Guild of the Honolulu Academy of Arts and active in their principal fund raising event Kama'aina Christmas. In addition to her volunteer activities, she was an interior designer for forty years both in Los Angeles and Honolulu with clients in Holmby Hills and Bel Air, and all over Diamond Head, Kahala, Kailua and the North Shore. She also designed for commercial projects for United Airlines and Chaminade University. She is survived by her husband, Henry B. Clark, Jr., two children, Barrett Waddill Francis (Alison Keith) and Maria Francis Parkhill (Tony), two grandchildren, Sidney and Henry Parkhill, 2 stepsons Putman Damon Clark and Sefton ("Bee") Clark (Alice), and grandchildren: Kaitlin, Jenna and Amanda Clark. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday October 16, 2015, 3:00pm at St. Clement's Church in lower Makiki. In lieu of Flowers, gifts may be made, in memory of Charlotte B. Clark, to Hawaii Public Radio, of which Mr. and Mrs. Clark have been longtime listeners and supporters.
