Melvin Glenn "Tarzan" Soares Sr., 83, of Kailua-Kona, a retired head carpenter for the state Department of General Services and a Marine Corps veteran who served during the Korean War, died in the Queen's Medical Center. He was born in Hawaii. He is survived by wife Marvee; sons Melvin Jr. and Mitchell; daughters Melanie Ballard and Lynne Robledo; brother Markham; sisters Ethelynne Teves, Nona Keaulana, Brenda Manuel and Marsha Nahulu; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 8 a.m. Monday at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo. Service: 10 a.m. Burial at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.
