GORDON L. SCRUTON
$nameGORDON L. SCRUTON Gordon Leigh Scruton, age 82, of Kailua, passed peacefully November 29, 2015 at home, surrounded by his beloved family. Gordon was born in Hilo, Hawaii, February 7, 1933 to Gordon and Martha Scruton. Gordon and family moved to Oahu where he enrolled at Punahou in the 7th Grade. After graduating from Punahou in 1951, he went away to the University of Utah and returned to Hawaii to graduate with a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Hawaii in 1957. In the course of his studies at UH, he met Raynette Lavonne Wojcik. On June 22, 1957, he married Raynette, the love of his life. Upon graduation, Gordon was commissioned into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of honorable service. After graduation, he embarked on a long and distinguished career in the Hawaii Construction Industry. He started work with Hawaiian Dredging Construction as a Superintendent for the Civil Division. He rose to Division Manager of the Building Division before George Murphy offered him the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to run GW Murphy Construction Co. Gordon was President of GW Murphy for 15 years and with the help of his diligent and hardworking coworkers, he turned the company into one of the top General Contractors in the State. When the GW Murphy was sold, Gordon was afforded the opportunity to be President of Nordic Construction, the job from which he retired. Through his journey in the Industry, he served as Vice President of the Construction Industry Legislative Organization, President of the Hawaii GCA in 1982 and recently retired as one of three AGC National Life Governors for the State of Hawaii. Gordon also had a love for the sport of Track and Field. From his roots as an Age Group Coach in the late 1960's, through his many years as a High School Official, he finally fulfilled his dream to officiate at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships. Gordon's love for Track and Field also took him across the Globe to see the Olympics in Montreal and the Track and Field World Championships in Paris, Helsinki, Moskow, Sevilla, Athens and Tokyo. Gordon is predeceased by his parents Gordon Harry and Martha Scruton and his younger brother Ted Scruton. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Raynette, sons Gordon Jr (Sharon), Lee (Deborah) and Erik (Nani), grandsons Noah and Thom, nephew Jeffrey, nieces Lori, Shelly, Jenna and Kellie. Services Monday, 12/21/15 at Hawaiian Memorial Park. Visitation 4:00, Service 5:00 and Celebration at 6:00. Inurnment 12/22/15 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery 10:00.
