GEORGE B. DOLAN, JR. George B. Dolan, Jr., long time resident of San Francisco and Honolulu, passed away in Deland, Florida after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 83. George was the son of George B. Dolan and Eva G. Russo Dolan of Wilmington, Delaware and Miami, Florida. He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and Salesianum High School in Wilmington, and graduated from Gesu High School in Miami. Throughout his life, George spoke with reverence, respect, and humor (and a little residual fear) regarding the nuns and priests of these institutions, by whose hands (and rulers) he gained a great education. After attending the University of Miami, George entered the U.S. Navy and became a Naval Aviator. He had the opportunity to serve in the Arctic, Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. His service in the Navy sparked a lifelong love of travel that led to his career in Foreign Trade. Military Service completed, he enrolled at George Washington University and obtained a degree in International Trade and began work at the U.S. Department of Commerce for the International Trade Administration. Except for several years spent as a Naval Intelligence Officer in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, he spent over 30 years in Trade Promotion, rising to Director of the Honolulu Office with responsibility for promoting export trade throughout the Pacific Rim. While Deputy Director of the San Francisco Office, he helped many Silicon Valley Firms to successful export of their products abroad. His understanding of Commerce and it's ability to bring people together through trade gave him a lifelong commitment to helping others share their ideas and products. After retirement he continued helping others make their trade dreams a reality by volunteering his expertise with S.C.O.R.E. (SERVICE CORE OF RETIRED EXECUTIVES) His service with the government and his own private love of adventure and meeting new people and seeing new places made George a world traveler. His favorite country was France for its language, beauty, and its World Wars battlefields, which loved to explore. Some of his most memorable strolls were through these battlefields. In later life, the poignancy and sadness of the Civil War Battlefields drew his attention . George was the oldest of five children, predeceased in death by his younger brother Louis of Louisville, KY. He is survived by his siblings, Michael P. Dolan, M.D. (Margaret) of New Orleans, his sisters, Mrs. Sheila T. DeYoung (Robert) and Mrs. Eva Michelle Griffiths (Randy), both of Deland, Florida. In addition numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his love and generosity. He also leaves behind friends made worldwide who will miss him tremendously.
