BETTY HWA-WON HIRAKI
BETTY HWA-WON HIRAKI March 3, 1957 to September 18, 2016 Betty Hwa-won Hiraki, loving wife of Randy Hiraki and devoted mother to daughter Hina Hiraki, passed gently into the welcoming arms of angels in the morning of Sept 18th, ending a determined 9.5-year fight with ovarian cancer. We come together to remember her on Friday evening, Oct 28th, at the Mililani Mauka Chapel starting at 5:30 pm. Services begin at 6:30 pm. Aloha attire please. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations to the Hawaii chapter of the American Cancer Society be made in Betty's name. She was born in Seoul, Korea and had a truly idyllic childhood surrounded by many friends and wonderful memories. Her best friend through childhood and into adulthood was her younger sister Hwa-sook. They were inseparable. Hwa-sook managed Betty's meteoric career as Korea's first female martial- arts star. Even today, a Korean fan club still exists 40 years later. But, incredibly, events caused Betty to leave everything behind. She left fame, family, her culture and language, to take her eight-year old daughter to the brave new world that was Hawaii. Without knowing the customs and language, Betty somehow used her talents to manage a well-known Korean restaurant and then invested her savings into her own retail clothing shop in Waikiki's King's Alley. Finally, in a fairy-tale love story that was too improbable and much too short, Betty found and married Randy in December, 2001. Their love grew richer with each passing day. Her family was her world and she took care of everyone despite her cancer. She lit a light in our lives that will never dim.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
