LANA KEHAULANI SHAW JOHNSTON Lana Kehaulani Shaw Johnston passed away peacefully Sunday, October 23rd at home with her beloved husband, sons and grandchildren at her side. Born in Honolulu on October 14, 1941 to her parents - Paul Kanani Shaw and Hannah Apuna - Lana recently celebrated her 75th birthday with loved ones. Lana was married to her soulmate Harold C. Johnston, Jr. on June 22, 1963 in Honolulu and was blessed with three boys - Chad, Grant and Corey Johnston. A true lover of life, Lana treasured her roles as wife and mother above all. In 1995, Lana became a grandmother - or "Gran" as she preferred to be called - with the birth of grandson Chandler Johnston. Over the next 20 years, she would welcome and cherish seven mo'opuna in all including Christopher, Connor, Maile, Bella, Andrew and Hannah. She devoted her life to o'hana and created legacies in the hearts of every member of her immediate and extended families. Lana was first diagnosed with breast cancer in October 1981, at which time her concern was surviving long enough to see her eldest son graduate from high school the following summer. She won her first battle with the disease and lived life to the fullest for another 35 years and witnessed all the milestones a mother could wish for - graduations, weddings, the birth of grandchildren and renewing wedding vows with her sweetheart after 50 years of marriage.In addition to her husband, sons and grandchildren, Lana is survived by siblings Boise, Chaz, Patricia and Paulette.A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Bishop Memorial Chapel of the Kamehameha Schools at 1887 Makuakane Street, Honolulu, HI 96817. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a service program starting at 10:30 a.m. Lana and her family experienced firsthand the healing power and compassion provided by dozens of nurses during her many treatments. In lieu of flowers and contributions, the Johnstons encourage family and friends to support the Lana Kehaulani Shaw Johnston Compassionate Care Scholarship, a program created in Lana's name to help Hawai'i nursing students by visiting www.youcaring.com/lanajohnston.
