A. Thornton Guild
Thornton Guild passed away on July 19 at the age of 91. He was born and raised in Honolulu where he attended Hanahauoli and Punahou School (class of 1944). After graduation, Thornton joined the inactive reserve working at Hickam as a civilian employee. In April, 1945, he was activated and sworn in at Schofield. Following basic training, he was assigned to the 7th Air Force at Hickam, working as an air craft mechanic. He was later assigned to flight status as a crew chief flight engineer, traveling throughout the Pacific theater. After a number of years in the San Francisco Bay area, Thornton returned to Honolulu, where he entered the insurance business (retiring in 2014). He and his wife, Annie, enjoyed life with their Dachshunds, Hannis, Christa and Henrietta and their 33 yr. old Senegal parrot B.J. Thornton was predeceased by his sister, Betty Guild Blake of Arizona and his brother, Robert, of Honolulu. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of 44 yrs., step-daughter, Terryl Phillips of California and seven nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, Aug. 28 at 9:00 a.m. at the Outrigger Canoe Club. The family suggests donations be made to East Maui Animal Refuge, 25 Maluaina Pl, Haiku, Hi. 96708, or the charity of their choice.
