LYDIA CASTILLO DEGRANDIS
Lydia Castillo DeGrandis, 87, of Kaneohe, Hawaii died peacefully in Steilacoom, Washington on August 14, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Born March 12, 1930, in Wailua Homestead, Kauai, she was the eleventh of thirteen children of parents Maximo Castillo and Antonia Navarrete-Sanchez. She was raised in Kapaa, Kauai and Honolulu. She waitressed at Tiki Tops in Kaneohe, Mid Pacific Country Club, Kailua, Oahu, and Flamingo Restaurant, Kaneohe, all the while helping with her husband's business, JD Appliance. She was an active member with the Koolau Senior Hui of Kaneohe and the Pau Hana Gang of Tacoma, Washington. She loved to travel, cook, eat out, and play the penny slots. In her later years, she enjoyed residing both in Washington state and Hawaii. Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph DeGrandis, eight brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by children, Joleen Pualani (Norbert) Cordeiro of Kaneohe, Stella Haunani Lover of Waimanalo, Joseph (Dominica) DeGrandis of Woodinville, Washington, Jonelle Maile (Thomas) Chalk of Steilacoom, Washington, and Jonette Wailani "JD" (Michael) Sessa of Ventura, California, sisters Annie Javellana of Kapaa, Kauai, and Frances Pascal Kim of Kaneohe, Hawaii, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services to be held at Hawaii Memorial Park chapel in Kaneohe, August 31, 2017, 9 am visitation, 10 am memorial service, 11 am committal service at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery committal shelter.
