PIILANI “TUTU” KINIMAKA
PIILANI February 21, 1931 May 31, 2018 Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister and friend, Piilani Beverly Kinimaka 87, of Honolulu passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at her home in Turlock, California due to complications stemming from her 16-year battle with Leukemia. She was born the daughter of Christian and Harriet Ellis on February 21, 1931. A graduate of Kamehameha Schools who immediately enrolled in the Queen's Hospital nursing program. She would go onto attend Washington State University in pursuit of furthering her nursing career in the medical field. She married her husband Patrick on April 30, 1955. She was an administrative nurse/surgical assistant employed by proctologists Doctors Johnson and Landess of San Jose Hospital for over 20 years. During that time, she attended Sacramento State University evening classes and acquired her BSN and began working for Kaiser. She then attended USC to earn her Enterostomal Therapy certification. Shortly after certification, opened her own private practice in the early 80's. Her diligence for excellence in this field gained her national recognition as a founder in discovering and implementing cutting-edge procedures in the field. She is survived by sons, Johnny and wife Donna Jo, James and wife Carol, Kathryn Henry Kinimaka; grandchildren, Jaimie, Jacquie, Hailey, Christian John; great-granddaughter, Emry Nohea; siblings, Liz, Christie and Dwight. She was preceded in death by her husband, only daughter Lisa and siblings Ulu and Butchie. She will be waiting in Heaven with Jesus for the rest of her Ohana. A Celebration of Life in her honor will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 28th at Newman 1st Baptist Church, 910 R Street, Newman, CA 95360 followed by a potluck meal at Yolo Middle School, 901 Hoyer Road, Newman, CA 95360. Services conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel, Newman.
