John Kaonohiokala Kaelemakule Collinspassed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2018 in Ewa Beach, Hawaii at the age of 88. John is survived by his wife, Constance; sons: John Jr. (Anastasia), William (Angela), and Calvin; grandchildren: Catherine Jade, John-Brooks, Brandace-Mori, C.J., Caysha, Caysey, Steven Ross, Victoria, and Isabella; great-grandchildren: Brendan, and Dakota; sisters: Winona, Fanny, and Ernesta and brother: Toshi. He was preceded in death by his son: Joseph, daughter-in-law: Cheryl, sister: Georgiana, and brother: Louis. John K.K. Collins was born on September 28, 1929 in Kona, Hawaii to Joseph Kaelemakule and Violet Lei Lincoln. He graduated from Iolani School in 1948 and furthered his education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He dedicated his life to protecting others and joined the Honolulu Police Department, finishing his 25 years of service as a detective for Juvenile Crime Prevention Division. He married his wife, Constance, his true love and remained married for 58 years. Over a period of 5 years, the couple welcomed 4 children into their home. His children remember him as a hardworking, social and loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. John was a musically talented, self-taught musician that loved to play the piano, ukulele, guitar and especially, the standup bass. Part of a police entertainment group sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines, he traveled as far as Japan playing his bass with other musicians to spread the sounds of aloha through Hawaiian music. A funeral service is scheduled for August 7th at Diamond Head Memorial: visitation 10:00 and services 11:30. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life.
