Kikuko Watabe GotaKikuko "Chris" W. Gota, age 86 of Pearl City, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2019, at Hospice Hawaii's Kailua House. Born June 25, 1932 in Japan to Hanako and Chiyoki Watabe, Chris was the seventh of eight children. In her early twenties, she met and married Leo Gota, beginning her journey as a loving mother and homemaker. She created a safe and happy home wherever the family was stationed, including California, Hawaii, Korea, Oklahoma, Germany, Turkey, and Japan. Chris lived a full life and during her lifetime, enjoyed traveling, sewing and crafts, cooking, animals of all kinds, serving her community, and especially gathering with friends and family. Chris was predeceased by her husband, Leo Gota. She is survived by her son James Gota and wife Belinda, daughter Ellen Izaj and husband Larry, daughter Amy Valdez and husband Tony, and daughter Tracy Durham and husband Jeff. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon Izaj, Jamie Izaj and husband Roderick Sheckler, Jessica Valdez, Samuel Valdez, Evelyn Durham; one great-grandson, Renly Sheckler; brother Toshiharu Watabe; and many nieces and nephews. Chris was interred at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, alongside her husband. A private memorial gathering will be held this summer. The family wishes to thank those who have extended many expressions of support, love, and prayers. Special appreciation to Hospice Hawaii for their loving care during her final days and Oahu Mortuary for arrangements beyond. Memorial donations may be made to Chris' favorite charities, which included: American Lung Association, American Heart Association, Hawaiian Humane Society (or any local animal shelter), and American Red Cross.
