76, of Honolulu, died Saturday, February 29, 2020 at his home in Honolulu. He was born in the Village of Taputimu, American Samoa to Tafe and Ituau (Talia) Ma'ae. As the son of a World War II Navy veteran and retiree, his family moved to Hawaii when he was young and they originally resided in Navy housing near Pearl Harbor. He graduated from Radford High School in 1963 and pursued his secondary education in Iowa where he met and married the love of his life, Cheryl Walters. A life long-resident of Hawaii, Vesi was Baptized; worked over 40 years in the transportation and storage field as a forklift driver; and had a variety of close friends in Honolulu. He was a quiet but loyal and loving family member and friend. Vesi was best known as a loving husband, extraordinary grandfather, subtle jokester, and a knowledgeable admirer of history. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with Cheryl, watching sports, testing his luck in Vegas, and visiting other family members. He will be greatly missed by his two Princesses (granddaughters). They will continue to debate who was his number one Princess while remembering he secretly told each not to tell they were number one. He is survived by his son Pat (Wendy) Maae; granddaughters Torrie and Kamryne Maae; sisters Luanei Houk, Venise Alo, Kaloline Alo, Sasa Silifaiva, sister-in-law Susan (Joel) Engel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cheryl; and brothers Taouli and Etisone Ma'ae. Services are pending and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
