FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

SISTER JULIANA COSTA BRUM, SS. CC.
SISTER JULIANA COSTA BRUM, SS. CC.Sr. Juliana, was born on November 28, 1922 in Lihue Kauai. Growing up in Kauai, she was a great help to her mother, learning to cook and sew, skills that would eventually serve her well when she entered the convent. She went to public school in Lihue and attended Mass at Immaculate Conception Church. Her mother used to cook for the parish priest and it was through this contact with the Sacred Hearts Fathers Celestin and Philibert, that she would join the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, since there were no SS.CC. Sisters on Kauai at that time. At the age of 16, Juliana moved to Honolulu, where she attended the Boarding school of Sacred Hearts Convent, there she met the Sisters and was further determined to enter the novitiate on October 3, 1939. She was first professed on October 25, 1942 at Sacred Hearts Academy community in Kaimuki and perpetually professed on October 28, 1945. Sr. Juliana's Religious life led her to serve in many communities and in many occupations. She was a Sacristan and seamstress, and also taught kindergarten. She served in many communities, Sacred Hearts Academy, Maria Regina Convent in California, St. Anthony Retreat Center in Kalihi and finally at Malia O Ka Malu Convent. In 2017, House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, recognized, commended and expressed heartfelt Mahalo to Sr. Juliana Costa Brum for her 75 years of profession and unwavering dedication continuing her ministry of reparative adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Sister Juliana died on Sunday morning, March 15, 2020 at the age of 97. The Sisters appreciate the gifts and prayers in memory of Sr. Julianna.
