Wallace Azusa Hirai, 91, of Hilo, Hawaii, passed peacefully at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home on September 12, 2020. Formerly the head of C. Brewer & Co.'s engineering department in Hilo, he was the Founder and former President of W.A. Hirai & Associates, a private consulting engineering firm with offices in Honolulu and Hilo. He worked in Hawaii's sugar industry during his early professional career and later as a mechanical engineering consultant. An avid fisherman who enjoyed time with his family, he proudly served his country as a U.S. Army officer in the Korean War. Born in Makawao, Maui, he was a graduate of Maui High School, the College of Engineering at Iowa State University and the Executive MBA program at the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He was survived by Mae, his wife of 69 years; sons, Allen (Monica) and Michael (Deborah); brother, Jerry Hirai; brother-in-law, George Sano; sister-in-law, Theodine Hirai; and three grandchildren, Bryant, Andrew and Christen. He will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. No flowers or gifts please. Arrangements Provided By:
