Age 100, of Honolua, (today known as Kapalua) and Lahaina, Maui, passed away in Kahului on July 16, 2020. She was born on September 05, 1919 in Lahaina to Taichi and Nayo (Mikami) Michimoto, the youngest of six children. The family moved to Japan when she was 4 years old and she was educated in Japan until she was 17 ½ years old, when she returned to West Maui. She was employed by Baldwin Packers which merged with Maui Pine and became Maui Land and Pineapple, retiring from the experiment department after many years of service. After retirement she enjoyed reading Japanese novels, sewing, gardening, going to Las Vegas and enjoying the fellowship of Honolua – Lahaina Seniors Club. Shizuko was predeceased by her husband, Hajime Okubo. She is survived by her son Edwin (Penny Okada) Okubo of Lahaina and her daughter Ellen (Reverend Dr. Bert) Sumikawa of Honolulu. She is also survived by 4 grand- children; Matthew and Suzanne Okubo of California, Dr. David and Dr. Mark Sumikawa of Honolulu, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand- nephews, and Cousin Setsuko Matsuda Mendes of Lanai City.
