FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

SUMIE “MOLLY” TOMIMOTO
SUMIE 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, in Honolulu, HI. Born on 10/9/1922, in Hanapepe, Kauai, Sumie was the 5th oldest of 8 children of Ushitaro and Hatsue Akiyama. She grew up in Hanapepe as a youngster but moved to Honolulu when she was about 16 years old to work and help with finances for her family back on Kauai. While in Honolulu, Sumie (Molly) met her future husband, Hiroshi Tomimoto, at a group picnic on Oahu. They were married on August 4, 1944.

Molly had 2 daughters, Karen (Sidney) Osada and Faye (Stewart) Matsunaga; and they had blessed her with 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Sato, Russell Osada, Kelly Matsunaga, Steven (Amy) Matsunaga, and Lindsey Matsunaga; as well as 5 great- grandchildren, Tyler Sato, Tanner Sato, Keoni Osada, Jeremy Flores, and Jerome Flores. In addition to Hiroshi and her daughters and their families, Sumie is survived by her sister, Norma Henderson, and sister-in-law, Agnes Ota.

She worked at Sear Roebuck and Co. for over 40 years with the timekeeping division.

With Hiroshi and her friends, she enjoyed tailgating at UH games, traveling to Las Vegas, and other social gatherings. Molly enjoyed many activities: trying new recipes for those tailgating parties, growing orchids, as well as traveling with Hiroshi to the mainland U.S. and Japan. She was an impeccable seamstress. She shared her many talents with her family and friends.

Molly was feisty and outgoing as well as kind and generous.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Maluhia Nursing Facility for their loving care of Molly while she resided there since July, 2017. We also appreciate Island Hospice with their assistance during her end of life journey.

Molly had wanted a funeral service for family to gather with relatives and friends; however, due to the pandemic, we were not able to honor her request. A private inurnment service was held.
