Ruby S.F. Luzon, (87) passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and husband of 68 years after a long illness, on September 1, 2020.
Vincent Luzon, (90) passed soon after on September 20, 2020. It was unexpected but his family believes he was eager to join the love of his life.
Ruby and Vince will be deeply missed by their sons, Wayne Luzon (Marites) and Scott Luzon (Corinne); daughters, Pat Perreira (Ronald), Laurie Rodriguez (John), and Donna Luzon; 11 grand- children and 5 great-grandchildren.
Ruby and Vince were both born and raised on Oahu. Ruby was the second of five siblings, and is survived by sisters, Jennie Tomita, Evelyn Kiyota and brother, Clarence Ing (Jennie). Vince was an only child. They met while Ruby was still attending their alma mater, Farrington High School. Vince so adored Ruby, he followed her to Kansas City, Missouri where they eloped on April 21, 1952. At the time, Vince was deployed to South Korea where he earned the Korean service medal with 5 bronze service stars, US Presidential Unit and Korean Presidential Citations. He was a proud member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Hawaii Chapter #1.
The happy couple raised their five children in Kailua. In addition to his fulltime work, Vince worked multiple jobs to support his family. His hard work and strong ethics were ingrained into his children. He worked for US immigrations for 3 years before working at the USPS for 37 years. He loved bowling in the Postal Bowling league (even after he dislocated his shoulder). After retiring from the USPS, he worked as a mail consultant at Hawaii Presort Mailing Service. Throughout his career he was recognized with several awards for his achievements however, his favorite reward was helping his many satisfied clients and bonding with his co-workers.
Ruby started her career at the Kailua Post Office a little later in life and retired after 25 years. To this day many people still fondly remember her friendly and happy disposition.
Throughout the years, Ruby and Vince became world travelers. Trotting around the globe to many exotic countries consistently stopping in Vegas. Ruby was an avid family historian and recorded their many adventures with her camera and she has compiled over 100 photo albums. All their adventures are well documented as they rode camels and elephants, cruised European rivers, tamed snakes, ate exotic foods and most especially made great life long friends.
Ruby was an awesome mother, grandmother, and great-grand- mother. She will be remembered for her ability to love others just as Jesus would, her easy smile, her contagious laughter, her generosity and kindness, being fun loving, and an attentive and patient listener. Her family always said she was the glue that kept the family together.
Vince will be best remembered for providing, caring and being supportive of his children, wooing Ruby into becoming his wife, his friendly manner with people, his appreciation for hard work, his love of sweets and desserts, being an avid UH sports fan, his gusto for dancing, and for being a strong willed, determined feisty man.
The loving couple were always holding hands and never went to bed without a good night kiss. They were inseparable to the very end and now they are dancing together in heaven!
They will be laid to rest at the Punchbowl National Cemetery with Honors. Private Services to be held.
