Margaret Kinuko Yu
Margaret Kinuko YuIn loving memory of Margaret K. Yu who peacefully passed away on March 26, 2021 at the age of 99 with her family by her side. She is survived by her loving husband Peter, whom she was married to for 66 years, and who currently resides in Kaneohe, HI. She is also survived by her three children, Barbara A. Stallbaum (Richard D. Stallbaum), Edward L. Yu, Carolyn M. Yu (Keith A. Vodzak) and 4 grandchildren, Eric Stallbaum, Adam Stallbaum, Dylan Vodzak and Morgan Vodzak, and her dear family friend of many decades, Judith Geoghegan as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born to Kay and Masae (Ueda) Yamamoto in Tacoma, Washington and raised in Fife, Washington. She was the youngest of five children, Ray, Kathryn (Yano), Edith (Kuramoto) and George. Margaret's parents and siblings predeceased her. Margaret graduated from Fife High School and was her class valedictorian. Upon graduating from high school, she went on to graduate from Hamline University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During WWII, Margaret served as a cadet nurse for the United States Army. After WWII ended, she went on to work in Honolulu, Hawaii as a surgical nurse at Kuakini hospital. She met her future husband Peter in Honolulu through mutual friends and they were married in Honolulu, Hawaii in November 1954. They relocated to California, and settled in Castro Valley, California where they raised their family and where Margaret served as a surgical nurse at Eden Hospital for over 40 years, including two retirements. In her later years, Margaret lived with dementia and was affected by Alzheimer's disease but was able to recognize her family until her death. Margaret was also cared for and nurtured by her loving caregivers from The Plaza in Kaneohe, HI. No services will be held.
