On March 14, 2021, beloved wife, mother and Tutu, Sylvia Ku'uipo Mench, 77, of Kailua, Hawaii passed away in her home with family by her side. Sylvia was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She graduated high school in Korea after her father's job moved them overseas during her sophomore year, ending a romance with her high school sweetheart, Ralph. Her life adventure continued to Ohio, Korea, Virginia, California, and Hawaii, while raising her two children, Michael and Michelle. Sylvia enjoyed a career as a contracting officer for both the Navy and the U.S. Army, retiring in 2007. During a serendipitous trip to a grocery store while visiting her parents in Hawaii, she bumped into her high school sweetheart, Ralph. This encounter led to a rekindling of a romance that culminated in 20 plus years of marriage. Together, Sylvia and Ralph enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, eating Sylvia's terrific meals, and playing Sequence with anyone who would join them at their kitchen table. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley G. Holland and Helen C. Holland (Wong), and brothers, Finley Blaisdell and Michael Holland. She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph O. Mench, children, Michael Rapp (Karen) and Michelle Rapp, five grandchildren, Katie, Kristen, Kawika, Ryan, and Malia, nine hanai children and their spouses, and an additional twenty three treasured grandchildren.
