Allan taught science education at Indiana University until 1970 when he was invited to join a Columbia University/USAID team to Kabul, Afghanistan as a science education specialist. He came back to Indiana University in 1974 and was asked to return to Kabul in 1976, this time withthe United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Allan continued with UNESCO until he retired in 1997, working in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and throughout the South Pacific, based in Suva, Fiji.
Allan is survived by his wife Haroldeen, his children Les (Patricia) and Jill Anzalone (Peter), and four grandchildren.
