Chiyo Hirata passed away on April 12, 2021 at the age of 85. She was born in Okinawa, Japan. She met her husband while he was in the Army and stationed in Okinawa. She travelled with her husband while he was in the Army and settled in Hawaii upon his retirement. She is survived by her husband, Katsumi Hirata, and their four children, Wayne Hirata, Shirley Brown (Randall), David Hirata (Eiko), Nancy Farris (Jeff), five grandchildren, brother, Shinzu Kuniyoshi, and two sisters, Miyoko Kuniyoshi and Kyoko Nakamura.
