Lloyd James Nakao
Lloyd James NakaoOn Monday, April 19, 2021, Lloyd James Nakao, a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away at the age of 75, with family by his side.

Lloyd was born on December 31,1945 in Lihue, Kauai to James Shigeo and Violet Miyoko Sakamoto Nakao. A local youth baseball star, he left his friends and family to attend Mid-Pacific Institute where he graduated in 1963. He attended the University of Illinois and eventually ended up at the University of Hawaii where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business while working at the Malia Hotel in Waikiki as an Accounting Clerk. He went on to Honolulu Business College while starting his career at Hawaii National Bank in April 1968 in the bank's Proof Department as an evening clerk. A hard working and loyal employee, he worked his way up to Senior Vice President and Director of Operations heading the bank's Operations Division until he retired in June 2011.

Lloyd was a passionate supporter of UH athletics as a booster and season ticket holder for various sports. He was an avid golfer, belonged to several golf clubs and especially enjoyed rounds with his high school classmates. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Excelsior Lodge #1, Harmony Lodge #3, Rebekah Lodge #1, Encampment, and Patriarchs Militants and served as the Nobel Grand for several of the units, as well as a trustee for many years.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, James. He is survived by this wife Melvina Chang Nakao, five children, Jodi Wanstead, Darren (Sandra) Nakao, Randi-Evelyn (Todd) Yoshikawa, Neil (Kimberly) Nakao, and Jaime (KeAlii) Nakao, 11 grandchildren, Lei-Vaughn, Cade, Reese, Brett, Shaun, Tyson, Allison, Kualono, Raine, Caitlin and Kama. He is also survived by his mother Violet, two sisters Sandra Nakao Riley and Donna Nakao Green, his four-legged "granddaughter", Trixy, brother-in-law, Malcolm (Vicki) Chang, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nephews.

Visitation 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Nu'uanu Memorial Park and Mortuary, East Chapel. Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Aloha/casual attire.

We invite you to come by to briefly pay your respects and to offer your condolences and ask that we all try our best to keep the visit short, even if you run into those you haven't seen in a while, to allow everyone to have a moment with Lloyd and the family.
