Robert Murray Chapman
Age 90, of Honolulu, passed away on November 2, 2021. Born on February 7, 1931 in the Territory of Hawaii to Douglas M. and Winifred Tait Chapman. He graduated from Punahou School in 1950 and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo until he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years during the Korean War period. Bob enjoyed playing musical instruments and had fond memories of playing the steel guitar in a band with classmates from Hawaii called The Islanders during his year at Cal Poly. After his discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard, he continued his education at Golden Gate College and graduated with a degree in accounting. He passed the CPA exam in 1958 and worked for eight years in the public accounting field before moving on to private companies. He was a former owner of JBL Hawaii, Ltd. Upon his retirement in 2002, he sold the company to American Building Supply Inc. of Sacramento, California. He was a longtime member and past president of Oahu Country Club and a member of the Outrigger Canoe Club. He and his late wife, Cara, traveled extensively throughout their marriage of 66 years, visiting almost every continent, including Antarctica on a Russian icebreaker. Survived by two nieces and four cousins. Private burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hawaiian Humane Society or charity of your choice.
