Rowena “Chiquita” Yamaguchi
Rowena U'ilani Pilialoha Yamaguchi, proudly of Papakolea, passed peacefully at home on October 10, 2021, at the age of 72 with her family at her side. She was born to Henry Dias and Eleanor Palenapa. In true local fashion, she was one of 10 siblings and grew up in a loving home with choke cousins. She instilled in us "family comes first". She would meet the love of her life while bossing him around at the Hungry Lion and together they would marry and later open their very own eatery, Ducky's. In pursuit of BINGO fame and fortune, Eric and Chiquita moved to the ninth island. While there, to no surprise, she and Eric continued to share their Aloha spirit and would make many lifelong friends. After years of dealing with the desert heat, Eric and Chiquita would move back to Oahu to enjoy their final years. Til the end Chiquita loved giving cooking lessons, beating you at SkipBo, cheering for her Patriots, making up her own words in Scrabble, singing and dancing like a true Puerto Rican, calling you "Joseph" as a sign of endearment, and FaceTiming you just to tell you she loved you. She is deeply loved and survived by her daughters Beatrice (Tom) Prothero, Kimberlynne (Tucker) Kaohi, and son Robert "Paka" (Mabel) Kaohi; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. On the important days and all those in between, you will be in our thoughts.
