Jane Yuriko (Uyehara) Yoshimura was born on 20 April 1935, in Puunene, Maui. When she came into this world, it made Seichi and Mildred Uyehara, the happiest and proudest parents in all of Maui to finally have a daughter since they already had 2 sons--Steven and Alan.As Jane grew up, to ensure she had a wholesome background, her parents enrolled her in a Brownie Scout Club; had her take hula lessons; and had her attend Sunday school at the Kahului Union Church.
Jane graduated from Baldwin High School in 1953. In the fall of that year, she enrolled at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon. In the fall of 1954, she enrolled at the University of Hawaii, where, as fate would have it, she met Les, her husband to be. It was mutual love at first sight and forever thereafter.
Jane's and Les' marriage was consummated 1 November 1958 by The reverend Abraham Akaka at Kawaiaha'o Church in Honolulu.
Throughout the years, Jane worked as a Stewardess for Hawaiian Airlines; then as a federal employee for US Army Japan at Camp Zama; with the US Navy Public Works Center at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and finally, with the J6 Section, US Pacific Command, Camp Smith, Hawaii.
Jane's real passion in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her passion was so energetic and sincere she gave up her federal career to assist in caring for and raising the younger generation. Always deeply concerned of their welfare and well-being, she was highly protective of each and was extremely proud to have witnessed each of her children and grandchildren grow up and succeed in their endeavors and careers. What little she experienced and witnessed of her great-grandchildren prior to leaving them, she was confident that they would be just as successful as their relatives.
To keep herself busy and occupied, Jane started to take interest in golf and enjoyed learning the intricacies of the game, along with the camaraderie and fellowship that came with it. Along with five other couples, she also enjoyed going to UH football games and occasionally, enjoyed ballroom dancing.
In addition to golfing, Jane also enjoyed bowling and she was pretty good at it. She and her daughter, Stephanie, used to bowl in a late Friday league at the Fort Shafter Bowling Alley. In that league they were tagged as the "Mother/Daughter" team to beat, while winning many jackpots.
Jane looked forward going to Las Vegas at least twice a year, to play the penny machines 'till the wee hours of the morning. As hard as she tried, she never qualified for an IRS Tax Form 1099.
One of our Lord's greatest gifts to us, was His child named Jane. Through her wise, charismatic, and gracious persona, she helped guide each member of her family into the likes of who they are today and cherished deep feelings of gratification in their achievements and personal qualities.
Sadly, on 19 February 2020, Jane was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Fortunately, there was an oral medication without any side effects to treat the type of cancer she had. She was so happy and relieved that she was not required to undergo any form of aggressive treatments. From then on, she was determined to live her life to the fullest.
On 23 June 2021, Jane and her family were notified by her doctor that the medication she was taking was no longer effective. The cancer had spread and because of her age and physical condition, there was no other form of treatment available which she could tolerate and would be of any benefit.
The Saint Francis Hospice staff pleasantly stepped in with their timely and reassuring hospice comfort, care, and service in tandem with Jane's four Informal Caregivers; Jovie, Johanna, Lori, and Grace. Collectively, they ensured Jane's time remaining was made pleasant and comfortable as much as possible.
With her famlly at bedside, Jane unexpectedly opened her eyes, without signs of any pain. She took one last glance at everyone present, then with a slight smile of contentment, Jane gradually closed her eyes in farewell to all, at 1:30 p.m., 9 July 2021.

Jane is survived by Les, her husband of 63 years; daughter Stephanie (Wayne) Elento; sons Tracy (Crystal) Yoshimura, and Randal (Donna) Yoshimura; grandchildren: Christopher Sakanoi, Shaye Sakanoi, Kellie (Jerry) Ha, Brittney Yoshimura, Brooke Yoshimura, Tawney Serikaku, Peyton Yoshimura; great grandchildren: Colten Ha, Sami Ha, Colby Ha and her brother Alan (Sylvia) Uyehara. Jane was predeceased by parents Seichi and Mildred Uyehara and brother Steven Uyehara.
