Betty Tomie Hamakawa, 93, of Hilo, died Nov. 15, 2021, at a private care home in Aiea. Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Hilo, she was retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Highways Division, a graduate of Hilo High School Class of 1946 and the former Hilo Commercial College, an avid poker player and member of Hilo AJA Bowling League. Private services to be held at a later date. Family requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). She is survived by son, Brian (Ruth) Hamakawa of Hilo; daughter, Jean (Andrew Smith) Hamakawa of Aiea; brothers, Bruce Fukuchi of Honolulu, Frederick Genshiro Fukuchi of Hilo; brother-in-law, Kiyoshi (Mikako) Hamakawa of Hilo; sister-in-law, Emiko Hamakawa of Hilo; four grand- children, two great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.
