73Jock Purnell was born in San Francisco, California, in 1947. His family moved soon after to Palo Alto where he grew up. He graduated from Brown University in 1969 and then served as a commissioned officer in the US Navy in the Pacific until 1972. He earned a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Southern California in 1974 and joined International Business Machines as a Systems Engineer in Los Angeles. He had a long career with IBM, mostly in Hawaii, having moved here in 1982. He retired from IBM after 30 years to form his own business, JP Network Integration, and worked conscientiously for his clients until just a few weeks before his passing.
He is survived by his wife Masako Purnell, son Dodge Purnell, brother Stuart Purnell, and sister Ada Camicia.
A memorial service for him will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the O'ahu Cemetery Chapel in Honolulu. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St Francis Hospice, 24 Puiwa Rd, Honolulu HI 96817.
