Ruth Haruyo Asato
Ruth Haruyo AsatoRuth Haruyo Asato peacefully left us on the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2020. Born in Kahalu'u, Oahu, on February 24, 1932, to Teisuke and Goze Kobashigawa, she attended Waiahole Elementary and Intermediate School and graduated from Benjamin Parker High School in 1950. Ruth was working at Aloha Products when she met a young carpenter named Herbert Asato. They married on August 25, 1956, and were blessed with four sons: Wesley, Wendell, Mark, and Myron.

In 1960, Ruth and Herbert moved into their forever home built on the Koba family property where she lived until taking her last breath. Ruth was a lifelong devoted member of the Kahalu'u United Methodist Church and passed on her strong Christian values to her sons. She was continually active in the Kahalu'u community and enjoyed the many Kupuna activities and excursions sponsored by the KEY Project. Ruth was proud of her Okinawan heritage and a member of Tomari and Nakagusuku Sonjin Kai clubs. Ruth was predeceased by her husband: Herbert; parents: Teisuke and Goze; brothers: Kikuo "Tommy", Andrew, George "Sab", Oscar, and Stanley "Aki". Ruth is survived by sons: Wesley (Joy) of Colorado Springs, Wendell (Susanne) of Indianapolis, Mark (Mona) of Kahalu'u, and Myron (Mayumi) of Okinawa, Japan; grandchildren: Marques, Ryuka, Kristen, Miku, and Matthew; granddog: Choko; sister: Sadako "Sadie" Tokumori of Los Angeles; Kobashigawa sisters-in-law: Sonoko, Sally, and Queenie; as well as her extensive Kobashigawa and Asato 'ohana.

Celebration of Ruth's Life on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation: 2:00pm; Service: 3:00pm. Family requests masks and proof of vaccination cards to adhere to the COVID Requirements. Burial on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Valley of the Temples at 11:00 a.m.
