FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Kunio Kobayashi
Kunio KobayashiPassed away on November 20, 2022 at the age of 96. Born in Kaunoa, Maui to Chuichi Kobayashi and Kiyomi Ujiie, Kunio graduated from Maui High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947 after serving in Japan. He then attended the University of Hawaii School of Social Work. He played in a local army basketball league and was on the UH baseball team.

He married Lillian Hino in 1954 and lived in Haiku, Maui. The family moved to Pukalani, Maui in 1961 where they lived until 2021. In 2021 Kunio and Lillian moved to One Kalakaua on Oahu.

Kunio's professional life was spent as an educator at various schools on Maui, including Haiku, Kula, Wailuku and Kahului Elementary Schools.

Kunio loved to travel and spent much of his retirement traveling to Japan, Europe, China and many trips to Las Vegas. He was an avid golfer, gardener, sports enthusiast and oil and water color painter. He enjoyed sharing his vegetables from his garden with relatives and friends. He was an active member of Makawao Hongwanji. And as a proud graduate of Maui High School, he loved to go to reunions and reconnect with his classmates.

Kunio is survived by his wife Lillian, brothers Michio and Wayne, and sister Jeanette Onishi, his children Mark and Sandy and many nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

Kunio will be remembered for his generosity, adventurous spirit
and kindness.

Private services were held at Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery.
