Stephen Walter McClaran passed away peacefully on December 8, 2022, surrounded by his devoted family. He was 96 years old. Stephen lived a long and rich life characterized by valor, curiosity, and humility. He was dedicated to the many people in his life, his community, and myriad pursuits over his lifetime. He was a wonderful man who endeared himself to all who knew him.
Stephen was the son of a Navy Admiral and a Poet. As a young boy he attended Punahou School and lived on Kahala Beach next door to Patsi Pritchard. She would become his wife in 1955, and they were married for 60 years.
His life's journey included a distinguished U.S. Navy career with service in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, a second career as a small business owner in Honolulu, and as a volunteer at the Honolulu Museum of Art well into his 90's.
He enjoyed his last years living at Pohai Nani in Kaneohe, surrounded by the beauty of the Koolau Mountains, the lush grounds, and the love and aloha of the staff and fellow residents.
Stephen was preceded by Patsi seven years ago. He will be especially missed by his children, John, Stephana, Peter, and Victoria, his sister, Ann, and his grand- children, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
