From August 1967 to August 1973, Wilfred served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He then worked at Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) as an engineer for over 30 years. During his career, his team received the NAVFAC Atlantic Outstanding Team Award and he received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Navy twice.
He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling, playing the sanshin, going to bon dances, and renovating his house. As a natural handyman, he was constantly working on something. His love for his family and friends extended to helping with their home improvement projects. His favorite daily activity was shopping. Harbor Freight was his number one destination of choice, followed by the Swap Meet, Costco, Home Depot, Amazon and eBay. Whenever he traveled to the mainland, he would visit as many Harbor Freights as he could find and fill up his suitcase with as many tools as he could.
But most of all, he loved being a grandpa to his two granddaughters and the family fur babies. He would travel anywhere to watch his oldest granddaughter run cross country and play soccer, and was always willing to babysit his youngest granddaughter, no matter how tired she made him. He also helped to take care of the family's fur babies, Puppy, Kit Kat, Buddy, Marlon, and Chibi, and loved them even when they misbehaved.
He is survived by his wife Tsuyako Takushi; brothers Clarence (Clarine) Takushi and Gregory (Gail) Takushi and sister Joy (Dennis) Sakamoto; children Lisa (Eric) Arakawa, Christina Takushi (Tyler Tamashiro) and Ricky (Miki) Takushi; and grandchildren Megumi (Cody) Miyataki and Alexis Takushi.
