Died at the age of 81 on February 27, 2019. Family members were fortunate to enjoy his wit and humor and strength during his time at Adventist Health Castle Hospital, Straub Medical Center, Care Center of Honolulu and Kuakini Medical Center. Born January 15, 1938, in Wailuku, Maui, Clarence was the heart of the Baldwin High School Bears as captain of the all-star basketball team. He also exceled at baseball and received a baseball scholarship to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. While working at Hale Niu he met the love of his life Doris (Yuasa) Watanabe. They were married on October 14, 1960 and were loving parents to their children Aaron, Debbie Lou and Jeanne. His sales career also encompassed Sato Clothiers and Ala Moana Center's JC Penney, as well as the Hawaii Kai Golf Course and Foodland Beretania during his retirement. Survived by son Aaron Kanai; daughters Debbie Lou Murakami and Jeanne Kanai (Robin Kimura); grandsons Parker Murakami, Robinson Kimura and Nainoa Kimura; and sisters Jean Fukuda (Gerald) and Priscilla Azama (Clifford). He was predeceased by wife Doris Kanai. The family would like to send a special thanks to cousins Shirley Chun, Nancy Murakami, Elaine Matsumura, Richard Yuasa and Jan Yuasa for their love and support during his advanced retirement years and illness. Clarence will always be remembered for his funny, entertaining charm and goodness of heart. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hosoi Mortuary on Saturday, April 20, 2019.
