Newell "Alani" Woodward, 54, of Kapaa, Kauai, a Wailua River boat captain and an entertainer, died in the Queen's Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Kathleen; sons Alani "Ka‘inoa" and Alika; mother Francine; brothers John Mersberg, and Daniel and Wesley Woodward; sisters Gwen Kalani and LaFrance Uli‘i-Woodward; and five grandchildren. Visitation: 8 a.m. Oct. 6 at Kapaa Missionary Church. Services: 11 a.m. Scattering of ashes: 12:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Wailua Beach at the mouth of the river. Casual attire. Flowers welcome.
