JOYCE LEE ESPOSITOJOYCE LEE ESPOSITO,
1927 - 2010
Joyce Lee Esposito peacefully passed away September 25, 2010 after a courageous battle with ALS ( Lou Gehrig's disease ). Born in Honolulu on January 30, l927 Joyce grew up in Hilo, which she loved even though she used to call herself a "country hick", then moved back to Honolulu to work for the VA, marry, and raise 4 children. She was a fulltime mother until her youngest child was in high school and she then joined the staff of Lieutenant Governor Jean King's office. She later worked a few years in the Traffic Court and finally became a Bailiff in the Family Court, a position she enjoyed and held for 25 years until her retirement in 2007.
Joyce had a remarkable memory for names, faces and events. Always at his side, ready with a name and an affiliation, she was a great asset to her former husband, the late O. Vincent Esposito. She was enthusiastic about politics, had liberal ideals, and worked as a volunteer in the campaigns of her favorite candidates. The qualities she admired most were ones she herself had - honesty and integrity. In her last months, she told her friends and family she'd had a wonderful life with no regrets, no remorse and was grateful for the years she'd had.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but especially by her four children, Donnie, Kathy, Gina and Peter; her five grandchildren, Erin and Kevin Mason, Nick Esposito, Vincent Joy and Emily Esposito; and her sister Eun Sook Liebling.
The family invites friends to join in a celebration of her life at her home, 1970 Mott-Smith Drive on Sunday, Oct 3. Visitation 5-6, remembrance 6-8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joyce Lee Esposito to MDA/ALS Hawaii. Please contact kathym@hawaii.rr.com for details on the service.
