PATRICK H. ELLISPATRICK H. ELLIS Patrick H. Ellis, born November 6, 1933 to William and Maria Ellis on Kaua'i, passed away on August 2, 2014. A private family graveside inurnment was held at Diamond Head Memorial Cemetery. Pat celebrated two birthdays a year. One was on November 6 and the other on March 17 (St. Patrick's Day) of course. Also, he had two families he loved - the William Ellis 'ohana and the Hawaiian Airlines 'ohana. In a family of six children he was the second son. At Kauai High School he was President of his ninth grade class, lettered in junior and senior varsity basketball, and was elected Student Body President in his senior year. Pat loved music, especially Hawaiian music, which he sang in a beautiful basso profundo voice. At times the whole family would gather with guitars, ukulele and piano to sing in beautiful harmony. Pat started out as a part-time baggage handler during his years as a student at the University of Hawaii. He became a full time employee at HAL after graduation, and upward mobility followed. He held a number of positions at HAL, including that of Passenger Service Manager initiating improvements when feasible, but mostly Pat enjoyed being a customer services representative. The latter provided the one-to-one contact in helping people which he enjoyed. One day he went to check on the departure delay of a plane and found a woman in a wheel chair sitting at the bottom of the stairs to the airplane. This Hansen's disease patient was awaiting boarding but fearful personnel refused to touch her. He picked her up and carried her up the stairs and helped her aboard. She thanked him profusely. In fact, his willingness to help in that difficult passenger transport situation at Hawaiian Airlines resulted in injury to his back which bothered him continuously until he died. But, typical of Pat he never complained. Pat retired after 35 years at HAL in 1987. He is survived by siblings: Edith Ellis and Winona E. Rubin of Honolulu and Dorothy E. Zeffiro of Kauai; nephews William Ellis Zeffiro and his family Keola B. (Kyla) Zeffiro, Jordyn Zeffiro of Kauai; Frank (Laurie) Zeffiro III of Connecticut; and niece Winona (Shane) Nelson, Seth Nelson and Mia Nelson, of Idaho. Also surviving are numerous William Ellis 'ohana. Mahalo to his Hawaiian Airlines 'ohana and to all those who made his life meaningful and fulfilling over a lifetime. Aloha nui.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
