Jessica Keiko Kawasuna SaikiJESSICA KEIKO KAWASUNA SAIKI Jessica Keiko Kawasuna Saiki, 85, passed away February 21, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. Born August 29, 1928 in Hilo. Jessica was a published author and poet; painter and artist exhibiting in galleries, museums and juried shows; a soprano soloist who played harp, piano and composed choral music for church. Her books: "Once, A Lotus Garden," "From the Lanai and Other Hawaii Stories" and "Aloha: Goodbye and Hello" (a novel). "Once, A Lotus Garden" was cited as 1987 Publisher's Weekly choice for The Year's Best Books. Jessica attended Mid Pacific Institute, Honolulu Academy of Arts, University of Hawaii at Manoa plus the Art Institute of Chicago and Roosevelt University. She is survived by her sister, Alice Nakahara of Honolulu, Hawaii and four children: Lorel Keiko Saiki, Mark Kenji Saiki, Jennifer Yeiko Evans, Neal Tate Saiki and their respective families. Her ashes are coming home to Hilo on August 23, 2014 with love and Aloha. Private services. No flowers. No monetary offerings.
