Iverne Norris Iber Saunders
Ordenstein's Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary IVERNE NORRIS IBER SAUNDERS of Kailua, Hawaii and formerly of McHenry, Illinois died October 30, 2010 at the age of 106. Iverne Norris was born in 1904 in a small farming community in Southern Illinois. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Chicago and became a Western Union telegraph operator. While in Chicago she met her future husband Oscar Iber. They were married in 1927. Together they founded and ran O. Iber Company, a distributor of industrial supplies. Oscar and Iverne Iber moved to McHenry in the mid 1930's. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church in McHenry and the Pistakee Yacht Club. After Oscar's death in 1967 and her retirement in 1971, Iverne went on vacation to Hawaii. While vacationing she met James Saunders and after a whirlwind romance they married. She never returned from that vacation for more than a visit. James and Iverne Saunders made their home in Kailua, Hawaii. They were founding members of the Windward Unity Church and Iverne was a member of the Oahu League of Republican Women. James Saunders died in 2002. Iverne will be remembered for her great strength of character, her pragmatic nature, her zest for life, her humor and her dignity. She is survived by her granddaughters Ellen (Bernard) McMahon and Lucy (Glen) Fick, 8 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. Her dear friends, Betty & Robbie Robinson, and her devoted caregiver, Nalani Stanley, will miss her greatly also.
